The tutorial was rather simplistic which may be why the effect is a bit rough. I continued to experiment with background textures. I found a concrete texture and a a brick wall texture. I desaturated the brick and applied an overlay to get it to blend in nicely with the concrete. It could almost be a CD cover... almost.
