I found another way to create a cool grunge effect on a photo. I really like this technique. It was created by duplicating the layer (set to Hard light), duplicate this new layer and apply a High Pass filter (Set blending to Hard light), new layer with gradient (Set to Overlay), add noise and blur... viola!
I've included the before and after image. I took the photo when I was out camping in the desert.
